Glorifying God

Isaiah 61:1-3

1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

These three profound verses have been on my mind for the past few days. They have had a special effect on me, captivated me so much and helped me align with God’s plan and purpose for me.

The mission of Christ is upon us today. Our duty and purpose in life is to glorify God. Just as Christ served the least of our brethren we are called to do so as well. By doing what Christ did on earth we give God the glory. The least of our brethren are the ones listed in Isaiah 61:1-2. Remember, we were one with them before going into this wonderful eternal relationship with Christ. Now we are adorned with beauty, joy, praise and we are called the trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord so that God alone gets the glory. We are watered by the river of life, we nourish on the Word of God, we seek the Lord daily, we wait on the Lord, and we bear fruits for Him. It does not end there. We in turn sow the seeds so that this same mission of Christ becomes the mission of everybody. This is the Lord’s goal and hence is and should be our goal for life!

  1. "So that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 1:7
